Kim Kardashian recently shared on the She MD podcast that one of her sons with ex-husband Kanye West has mild vitiligo, a condition where patches of skin lose their color. She didn’t specify whether it’s Saint, who is eight, or Psalm, who is five.
Dr. Vinesh Mistry, a GP with the NHS, explained that vitiligo causes skin to lose its pigment and can affect the face, neck, hands, and skin folds. It can be generalized or segmental and affects all skin colors.
Dr. Paris Acharya, co-founder of The Ardour Clinic, added that vitiligo results from a lack of melanin and can be triggered by stress, severe illness, or skin injuries like sunburn. It’s believed to be an autoimmune disorder, and triggers may include severe sunburn or cuts.
